Power of Zero

TOUCH Cyber Wellness launched a themed train on the Downtown Line on 6 February 2018 as part of Power of Zero, a year-long cyberbullying awareness campaign.

Decked out in vibrant colours and accompanied by community messages on cyber bullying, the design concept of the 70-metre train features useful handles on good online etiquette and practices, as well as quotes by individuals who were either victims or perpetrators of cyberbullying. The train is scheduled to run for 18 hours daily for four weeks, reaching out to some 245,000 commuters each day on the 34-station Downtown Line.

The event was attended by Guest-of-Honour, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Social and Family Development, Associate Professor Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, community partners, youth volunteers, as well as artiste and Campaign Ambassador, Julie Tan who shared her personal story on being a victim of cyberbullying.

Sharing by Power of Zero Campaign Ambassador, Julie Tan:

"It was tough when I first started out in showbiz as expectations were high and I was always pressured by the need to perform and look good all the time. I also read many nasty comments about myself online – about my body, about my face. Another nasty online comment read, “she should just go kill herself”. That comment really shattered me and I wondered how people could be so vicious to others without even truly knowing them. I felt like I wasn’t good enough. I was really depressed and had anxiety attacks.

For the past five years, I’ve been working on loving myself, learning not to be affected by other people’s words, and working to bring a bigger positive impact to society. I would really encourage everyone to be more aware of practicing cyber etiquette whenever they are online. Just take a minute and think twice the next time you want to post that “funny” comment or reply someone online."

TOUCH Cyber Wellness is the Singapore lead for this global cyberbullying awareness campaign.
