Shining A Light Of Hope

Set against the picturesque backdrop of the Marina Bay skyline, some 1,800 runners donned their race T-shirts and LED shoe lights, and lit up the Gardens by the Bay East footpath in support of mental health awareness.

The runners were participating in the Light of Hope Run, a night run organised by TOUCH Community Services on 30 September 2017 to raise mental health awareness and to encourage people living with these conditions to step out and seek support.

Flagged off by Chief Executive Officer of TOUCH, Mr James Tan and Light Of Hope Run Ambassador, Ms Eelyn Kok at Gardens by the Bay East, the runners participated in either the 7km Competitive Run or the 3.5km the Buddy Run. The 7km runners collected coloured wristbands featuring words of encouragement at each kilometer mark while participants of the Buddy Run conquered four obstacle stations with the support of their running partners, depicting how individuals with mental health issues can overcome the odds and step into the light.

At the finish line, participants basked in the glow of beautiful fairy light arches and were treated to live stage performances and a photo booth at the race carnival.

The Light Of Hope Run is supported by community partners, including AMKFSC Community Services, Fei Yue Community Services, Institute of Mental Health, National Council of Social Service, O’Joy Care Services, Over the Rainbow, Silver Ribbon (Singapore), Singapore Anglican Community Services and Singapore Association for Mental Health.
